How To Style For Success With Rabuna Image

As the saying goes, you ‘dress for the job you want.’ However, what does this really mean? If you work in a shop but have always wanted to be a scuba-dive instructor, you can’t exactly show up for work in a wetsuit and scuba tank, can you?

At Rabuna Image, we think a great way to interpret this saying is ‘present yourself for the job you want.’ Personal presentation encompasses not only what you’re wearing, but also how you’re styled, your attitude, and your approach to grooming. If you want to climb the career ladder, presenting yourself in a professional manner will let people know you’re serious about what you’d like to achieve.

It doesn’t cost a fortune to do this, either. A good place to start is by going through your wardrobe and making sure the clothes you already own are pressed and in a good state of repair. Set up capsule collections to get you through the week so that you start the day organised – arriving late yet impeccably dressed may have worked for Bianca Jagger, but for the rest of us it just looks disorganised. If you do need to spend money on some new items to update your look, shop wisely, investing in classics such as a well-fitted jacket, a shift dress and a pair of tailored trousers. These can then be mixed and matched with simple tops and different accessories to create a variety of looks. And a well-made, comfortable pair of dress shoes will last longer and look nicer than a cheaper version, so once again are worth the investment. If you’re on a tight budget, or thinking sustainability, charity shops are a great source for stylish pieces for work and weekend, so check out your local ones regularly – you never know what you might find!

Personal grooming is, well, just that – personal. We all have our own preferences as to how we manage our bodies. While professional attire does generally go hand in hand with a polished look, some women wear a full face of make-up and look fabulous, whereas others can slick on a bright lipstick and that’s all they need. My recommendation would be to do what feels comfortable to you, but also take your cue from those around you in the organisation as to what you’d like to achieve. Make-up counters often offer free makeovers or tutorials, plus there are plenty of videos online if you’re thinking of updating your look – once again, this doesn’t have to cost the earth, as many high street and chemist make-up brands offer well-priced cosmetics in ranges to suit different colour tones.

Finally, consider the attitude you present to others in your workplace. Confidence and positivity will take you a long way when it comes to moving forward, as will expressing your desire to learn more about your field of work, seeking out mentors and doing further study. Networking with others, whether on LinkedIn or through local business organisations such as Athena, can give you the lead you need to take the next step on the career ladder. And, with your newly refreshed wardrobe and updated style, you’ll be more than ready.

At Rabuna Image, our motto is ‘Styling you for Success.’ This is something we truly believe in – style as a pathway to success. Working with professional women over the past few years, we’ve helped them to gain confidence and work with what they have to present their best possible face to the world.
